Our Baby . . . The Magician!

What a crazy few days we've had! We somehow managed to officially move into our new apartment on Saturday. We had some extremely long days of packing and unpacking, loading and unloading . . . even through the snow! But, we had lots of tremendous help from our friends and family, and we still can't thank them enough! Our friends are real troopers. So today is the first day of classes, and I already had a reading assignment due for my class! The crazy thing is I actually did it--it actually turned out to be a nice break from unpacking and such. I still feel like I could use a few more days off before school starts, but I guess the sooner it starts the sooner it will end and I will graduate!

Well, aside from all of the craziness of moving and starting school, we were in for an even bigger change this morning. Our baby boy turned out to be our baby GIRL!!! What a rollercoaster these past few hours have been. I was laughing and crying, shocked and more shocked, feeling guilty and excited all in a matter of minutes. My mind still hasn't completely gripped this new reality, and I think it may take a few days to sink in better. I know what you're thinking . . . she's joking right? An early April Fool's joke or something? Well, I'm not that cruel. Believe me, it took several minutes to convince my mom I was telling the truth. So . . . how did this confusion happen? Well, I'm as surprised as anyone, but the "boyness" we saw a few weeks ago must have been severe swelling that has since gone down. Pretty amazing, huh? Now we have to switch gears and come up with a girl name, which will definitely distract me from school!

Luckily and most importantly, our little baby girl has a healthy skeletal system and all of her organs are functioning properly. We also got to see the four chambers of the heart, which was beating at 142 bpm. She is measuring normal at 12 ounces--that is so crazy to me that babies can be so developed but still so tiny! She is also quite active in my tummy . . . I definitely think we've got a serious athlete on our hands.

PS: I think Kyle could use some congratulatory phone calls . . . he was so excited for a son, and I think it may take some extra time for him to get used to the idea of a little princess instead.

CONGRATS!!! Little girls are so much fun and believe me, she will have Kyle wrapped around her finger within 30 seconds of being born. We love our little princess and know you will have tons of fun and love yours tons too!

I think it's hilarious that you found out that you're having a girl right after moving out of our all-boy-havin' ward!! Well I know that must have been quite an experience finding out and I'm sorry that you're probably mourning your boy, but I'm sure one will come along some day and in the meantime you will LOVE LOVE LOVE your little Meggie Jr.!

Hey Christiansens!! We just found a link to your blog from the Smiths and thought we'd say hi. Congratulations on having a baby girl on the way--our little Marie is two months old now and it has gone so fast! We only had one ultrasound so now I'm wondering what it would have been like if she had popped out a boy. . . definitely a surprise. Good luck with the rest of moving and we'll keep checking back to keep track of you guys!
