So, I love the fall for so many reasons! (One of the main reasons being my love for pumpkin of course. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, pumpkin shakes . . . mmm!) Too bad this fall has started out for the worse! We've all been sick, and I'm sick of it already!
It started out with me getting the flu. Having the flu + being pregnant + taking care of a toddler=a MISERABLE combination! I wouldn't recommend it! :)
The second night of me having the flu turned into quite the adventure. Obviously I still wasn't feeling well, but that turned out to be the least of my worries. Kelsey had her first experience at the Emergency Room, and she was not a fan! Kelsey had fallen asleep around 6:45 that night. (Her normal bedtime is around 8:30-9:00.) We thought it was a little strange she was so wiped out, but we went ahead and put her down for the night. Well, I continued to feel miserable and was lying helpless in bed when all of the sudden Kelsey started crying at 9:00. I was hoping I could just rub her back or rock her back to sleep, but I realized she was burning up! I immediately took her temperature of 102.6, and quickly gave her some Tylenol.
I just kept holding her in bed until around 9:20, she started seizing! It really didn't seem that scary to me until I couldn't get Kelsey to respond. Her eyes were sunk in the back of her head. She wasn't responding to light shining in her eyes, and worst of all, she wasn't breathing! This was a mother's worst nightmare! I was trying to remain calm, but let's be honest, I'm pregnant, and everything's worse when you're pregnant! Kelsey wasn't responding or breathing for several minutes. I started tearing up, and wasn't sure quite what to do to get her better.
Kyle took hold of her, and she still wasn't responding. After a few more minutes she started gagging up a ton of saliva. Kyle's shirt was literally drenched from all of it. Meanwhile, I was scrambling to find Kelsey's insurance card, which of course, I couldn't find! After a good 5 minutes, which felt like 20 minutes, of searching, I found the card, and we were on our way to the hospital. We arrived at 9:45, and there were already about 500 people in the waiting areas. I knew we were in for a long night.
We followed standard procedure and took a form to fill out and waited until our name was called. Then, we got to go explain the situation to a nurse. Then, we waited some more until our name was called again, and talked to someone at another station. All of this waiting wasn't too bad because at least we were staying occupied with our screaming child who wouldn't calm down after her traumatic incident. We finally put on Mickey Mouse for her, and she calmed down a bit and actually fell asleep. After about 1 1/2 hours, we were finally called back, but there was still more waiting! We were called back with about 5 or 6 other kids, and so we still had to wait to see the doctor for another hour. And, they only allowed one parent to go back with each child! So cruel making us go through this alone! But, of course, all the mommies went back.
Kelsey was remaining calm and being a trooper, until a nurse came over and put an anklet on her! She started flipping out, and got so scared! And then the nurse was taking all of her vitals, and Kelsey did not want anything to do with it. So, after the nurse was done with us, I got to sit in an uncomfortable chair for another 45 minutes. Luckily Kelsey had fallen back asleep for part of this, and then it was finally time to see the doctor. He was pretty apathetic and unhelpful about the whole ordeal. He didn't say anything about her seizure or about her not breathing for several minutes. He just checked her breathing, throat, nose, and ears, and found she had an ear infection, so he would prescribe some medicine for that. And that was it for the doctor. I found it a little anticlimactic and inconsiderate. Then, I was on to some more waiting to go to another room to sign a bunch of forms and give all of our insurance information. Finally at 12:45, we were outta there! Wahoo! We went through the drive-thru to fill her prescription, and made it safely home at the lovely hour of 1 am!
Well, our week just kept getting more interesting from there. I stayed sick, Kelsey started doing better, but then Kyle came down with the flu! We were a very sad bunch! Then, Kyle got better, Kelsey was fine, I got over the flu, but then I had a bad few days "morning" sickness that lasted all day and night! Then, I finally had a day where I wasn't throwing up and feeling miserable, and Kelsey started getting a deathly looking rash all over her body, so I took her to the Urgent Care to get that sorted out! Boy oh boy, what a week!!!
Kelsey's rash starting to spread all over her body.
And all over her back.
And it just keeps getting worse.
AH!!!!!! I can't take this anymore!!!! Can't we just be better already! :)
