This has been a really busy and crazy week for us! I don't even know if I can remember it all! Here are some highlights.
Saturday, October 25: Stood on the PCH (major highway along all the beaches in Orange County) holding "Yes on 8" signs. I have some really interesting stories from this experience. Let's just say we encountered some very "colorful" people. But, we had SO many supporters drive by and give us their "thumbs up" of approval.
Monday, October 27: We carved pumpkins and ate puppy chow! (Pictures of our pumpkin carving are in previous post.)
Tuesday, October 28: I did early voting! It was so much fun to cast my ballot. I wasn't sure how busy Election Day would be, and I didn't want to risk having to wait in line for several hours with a 5 month old, so I got it done! Kyle was busy all day! He went to work, then straight to a work meeting for a side project he is doing, then straight to church for more meetings! I was a good wife, and met him at church to take him dinner though!
Wednesday, October 29: Kyle and I decided to go on a date, and it was so much fun! We put Kelsey to bed around 9:45, and then we left for our late night date. (By the way, we did not leave Kelsey alone. The grandparents were listening for her.) We went to see the movie Fireproof. It is a low-budget Christian film about a fireman who is a hero to everyone except his wife. They are going to get a divorce, but the man begrudgingly accepts a challenge from his father to do the "Love Dare" for 40 days in order to save the marriage. It is a movie about patience, love (Christ's love), overcoming addictions, and so much more! Even though I consider my marriage to be very happy, this movie made me even more dedicated to becoming a better wife. And just a word to the wise--you have to accept that some of the acting in this film is a little on the cheesy side. (That may be an understatement.) But the message is quite inspiring!
Another cool thing about this date in general is that we earned $6 by participating in a music survey when we arrived at the movie theater. And, we had movie passes, so we didn't actually pay for the movie! We got home around one in the morning. It reminded me of the days when we were single and dating and didn't care about how much sleep we got because we were young and in college. Now, we're a little older, Kyle has a full-time job, and we have a baby. I would not recommend doing this every night, but it was definitely worth a little less sleep this once!
Thursday, October 30: We welcomed a new niece into our family. Evelyn Mae Christensen was born at 12:42 pm. She was 8 pounds 14 ounces and 19 inches long. Kelsey and I spent about 6 hours at the hospital. She was such a trooper. Kelsey learned the art of people watching. She would seriously follow people until they were out of sight, and she would try and talk to them as they walked by! I probably should have prefaced the conditions at the hospital. Kelsey was not allowed up on the mother/baby floor. (Or any children under 12 for that matter.) So, Kelsey and I spent a lot of time in the waiting room downstairs. Then someone would watch Kelsey for a little while when I went up to visit Michael, Chelsea, and Evelyn. Kyle met up with us at the hospital after he got off work.

She loves me!

I think this was the day our "Yes on 8" sign got stolen from our front yard along with the rest of the ones in our neighborhood. Interesting someone would take away our freedom of speech.
Friday, October 31: Happy Halloween! Kelsey and I spent another 6 hours at the hospital. Kelsey was dressed up as a bumble bee, and she was so cute! Kelsey enjoyed another day of people watching. It was funny to hear some people's conversations as they walked by because they weren't talking to us, but I could still hear them. Like, "Awww . . . look at the little bumble bee. How cute!" Or, "Did you see the cute little bumble bee?" Other people approached us and said things like, "Your daughter is darling!" Or, "That's one killer bee!"

I was absolutely exhausted after we got home from the hospital, so I took a nap! After I woke up, we had to go pick Kyle up from work. When we got home, we scarfed some pizza down our throats, and then got Kelsey in her costume so we could go trick-or-treating. Kelsey had lots of fun being dressed up as a pumpkin again. We got to go with her 2 year old cousin Talon who dressed up as a pirate. It was surprisingly pretty hot, and we were all dripping sweat! We still had tons of fun and had a wonderful experience for Kelsey's first time trick-or-treating. I was also proud of myself because I only ate two small pieces of candy.
Kelsey and Mommy.

Kelsey got something that Talon liked, and he decided he should have it instead. Luckily, Kelsey didn't know the difference!

Kelsey, Daddy, and the big pumpkin
After we put Kelsey to bed, Kyle and I started watching Ghostbusters. I think I lasted about the first 15 minutes, and then I was out!
Saturday, November 1: Yay, it's November. That means we're going to Dallas this month! Kelsey and I went jogging in the morning. I decided I needed to start the month off right by exercising. Kyle went with his siblings and mom to deliver over 400 door-knob hangers for Prop 8. (Kelsey and I couldn't go because it involved too much driving around, and getting in and out of cars. We would have made the process take longer!) They spent over three hours doing this! Later in the afternoon, we went to the Carter's store to buy a few warmer outfits for Kelsey. Kyle and I went to the hospital again to visit Michael, Chelsea, and Evelyn.
Sunday, November 2: Kelsey is 5 months old!!!!!! She is such a big girl I can hardly stand it! She is 16 pounds 6 ounces and 26 1/2 inches long, which keeps her close to the 90th percentile for weight and almost 95th percentile for height!
Things Kelsey loves to do:
-Sit up by herself and reach for toys on the ground
-Stand up with some help because it makes her feel like a big girl!
-Giggle a lot! (especially when Daddy comes home from work)
-Stare at people and follow them around
-Grab and slobber on anything that Mommy has (cups, water bottle, newspaper, magazines, etc.)
-Fly around as "Super Kelsey"
-Help Mommy do sit-ups (this cracks her up!)
We also completed six pages of phone calls for Prop 8! Is anyone else just excited for this election to be over soon?
