Round 5

We are 5/12 of the way done! Wahoo! Truth be told, it still just feels like a long road ahead, but yes, we are almost halfway done with the chemo treatments! I wish it would just fly by a little bit faster! This treatment went just ok again. Kyle felt sick the whole time. They tried some new nausea drugs, and they at least finally knocked him out so he didn't have to deal with the uncomfortableness for a little while! (That's a word, right?) This treatment was also supposed to be a "short" treatment without the extra drug, but we ended up being there the longest out of any treatments thus far! Kyle sat in his chair from 10 am-5 pm . . . what a trooper!

Before his treatment, we had our monthly check up with the doctor, so really we were at the doctor from 8:45 am-5:00 pm. No need to be jealous, it really wasn't that fun! We found out some more details about meeting with a bone marrow specialist. Either toward the end of the treatments, or after all 12 have been completed, we will go up to LA to meet with a doctor who will go over Kyle's case. The following week a team of doctors will decide Kyle's fate--whether he needs a bone marrow transplant. They will factor in Kyle's age, overall health, stage of cancer, and all of his tests and scans to determine the risk of the cancer coming back. If they decide he needs a transplant, he will be treated at a hospital in LA and will be required to recover there for 1 month. If you are thinking like me, then you might think this sounds overwhelming--balancing taking care of kids and taking care of husband, traveling back and forth, is this really doable? Although we will not know for a couple of months the likelihood of this occurring, we would appreciate any prayers in Kyle's behalf that the chemo he is on will be completely effective, and that a bone marrow transplant is not found necessary.

Kyle also had another bad night last night. (Same night after Round 4). Luckily, this time, there was no vomiting, but he was just downright miserable. He was freezing cold and shivering, and his whole body was in pain--bone pain and just general aching. I got him some medicine, and we did some deep breathing to help him relax. So much of this is a mental battle. It's so easy the instant Kyle starts feeling sick to just want to give up. But, we decided to fight last night, and we were happy to "win". We considered it a win that he didn't throw up and that we were only up for 1 1/2 hours instead of 3. That's the power of positive thinking!

Well, that's the update for now. Kyle has a pulmonary function test tomorrow morning to gauge how the chemo is affecting his lungs thus far. He will have more scans the beginning of June. And, to end on a really precious note, this morning Kelsey could tell Daddy still wasn't feeling that great, so she decided to take matters into her own hands! She took Kyle's hand and put it in her hair and started singing a song. At first, Kyle didn't get it, but she was singing the song Rapunzel sings to make people better! (You know, "bring back what once was mine . . . " We thought that was pretty clever and cute!

Kelsey is sooooo cute! And SMART! That is amazing that she was able to apply that part of the movie into her own life! And you all are so brave and so good. You guys show me what true faith is.
