Never a Dull Moment!

Just when we think things are going "ok" we seem to have another bump in the road! We had to rush Kyle to the ER last night and he got admitted to the hospital! Kyle couldn't even walk from the kitchen to our bedroom without fully leaning on me for support. Once I got him in bed, he was shaking uncontrollably, moaning in aches and pains, and was running a 101.4 fever. (Note, when you are a cancer patient, anytime your temperature is over 100.4, you are supposed to go to the ER.) A couple hours prior to this, we had noticed a red streak going up his arm at the site from the IV from chemo on Friday, but we weren't too concerned because it didn't seem swollen. Well, off to the ER we went. I called our amazing doctor to get some advice. He went ahead and called the ER to let them know our situation and that we were coming. Luckily, there was no wait! (Seriously, when does that ever happen?) I won't go into our lengthy stay in the ER, but I will just say we got there at 8 pm, were taken back immediately, but we weren't taken up to our room until 1 am, even though they had decided at 10 pm that Kyle would be admitted. Then, our nurse stayed to ask a bunch of questions and check vitals until 2 am. Then, she came back at 5:15 am to check vitals and administer antibiotics again. Needless to say, it was a long night! We are waiting to get lab results to find out if the infection is superficial, or if it spread into the blood. We should hear back sometime tomorrow. Kyle is responding well to the antibiotics, and the red streak on his arm is barely visible. But, alas, another night in the hospital and hoping to come home tomorrow!

By the way, have I ever mentioned dealing with cancer is inconvenient? Sheesh! We are ready for all this crazy drama to be over!

Here is Kyle when we first got to the ER. He was shaking and pretty panicky. Oh, and his fever was 102.7.

Ok, clearly I need some practice taking pictures of us, but granted it was 2 in the morning, and we were pretty exhausted!

Here's my spiffy bed! I'm used to being the one on the comfy bed in the hospital. And yes, I do look rather amazing at 2:30 in the morning, thank you!

Kyle was SO out of it! I couldn't stop laughing all night at all of the comments he was making. He would kind of doze off, and then would wake up and frantically say, "What is on my finger?" "Where am I?"

The girls got to come visit Daddy in the hospital. Kelsey was so excited all afternoon that she didn't nap . . . until the car ride here! We missed our sweet little girls today!

The docs are hopeful that the infection is just superficial considering how well Kyle is responding to the antibiotics, but we will know more tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's continued prayers and support!
